Ash Lawn-Highland

The Home of President James Monroe. We welcome schools, tourists or anyone looking to book a special event and connect with the rich past of our country. Ash Lawn-Highland is an historic house museum open year-round. Our primary mission is to share a message about James Monroe and his contributions to U.S. history. Guided house tours are offered throughout the day. We invite the public to visit our working farm where we interpret a historic way of life in demonstrations of crafts and open-hearth cooking. The site has several facilities available to rent for weddings, reunions and other events. Ash Lawn-Highland is situated in the beautiful mountains of Albemarle County, a rural area that still retains many elements the Founding Fathers knew when they lived here.
